Behind The Lens

How your worst day can define you.

Joel Bryant // December 8th, 2024

Sometimes, no matter how much momentum you have, no matter how high you’re riding the wave—you hit a wall.

That’s exactly what happened to me recently.

For three months, I felt unstoppable. Building my personal brand, pumping out consistent content, sticking to my creative goals—I was on fire. But life, as it does, had other plans.

The cracks started to show when I missed a weekly YouTube upload. Then another. The schedule I had promised myself fell apart as work projects stacked up faster than I could handle. Suddenly, the thing I was so excited about—this creative journey—felt like a weight I couldn’t carry.

The questions crept in. Should I just give up? Am I kidding myself? Is this even worth it?

One week passed. Then two. Still no new videos. Still no spark. I started to feel like I was losing the battle.

But here’s the thing about life: even when you feel like you’ve stalled, it’s still moving. And sometimes, when you step back, you see things differently.

During those “off” weeks, I realised something: even in the chaos, I was still showing up in ways that mattered. I pushed myself to train every single day, no matter how tired I felt. I spent time in the snowy mountains, filming a documentary at Mount Kosciuszko—an insane experience that pushed me as a filmmaker.

I’ve been creating non-stop for work projects, capturing exciting footage from recent shoots that I can’t wait to share with you. The desire to create hasn’t left me—not for a second.

And that’s when it hit me—progress isn’t about what you do when everything is easy. It’s about what you do when everything feels hard.

On your worst days, showing up might look different. It might not be flashy. It might not be perfect. But it’s those days—the ones where you keep going even when you’re doubting yourself—that shape who you are and where you’re headed.

So here’s my takeaway: You don’t have to win every battle. You just have to keep showing up.

That's all that's on my mind for now - most of my mental bandwidth is being spent on projects behind the scenes haha... lots to come.

Stay tuned.
